A comic play about Michael Sinclair, an endearingly obnoxious character who is in therapy for his Performative Life Syndrome.
He believes he has an audience watching him in every moment and with his therapist’s help he is determined to banish the audience once and for all. But is he ready to see the audience leave? Do they really want to go? As the audience witnesses the play unfold they become more and more complicit in Michael’s madness. This complicates things quite a bit for the therapist and by the end, Michael’s problem becomes the therapist’s in a big way.
If You Look is a play inspired by clown theater and the tradition of Commedia del’Arte, this play relies on the fun and spontaneity of improvisation. The script is constantly evolving. The script is in the form of a canovaccio, with a tightly scripted beginning, a backbone of major turning points and a solid ending. Within this structure there are lots of areas left up to the fun of the performance on the night.
