Clowns Without Borders USA teamed up with Clowns Sans Frontières France to organize 30 performances for vulnerable children in Haiti to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the International Convention on Children’s Rights and the 20th anniversary of the accession of Haiti to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
A group of French, American and Haitian clowns worked together over the course of four days to devise two shows, each an hour long, on the themes of children’s rights and the rights of the reader. We then split the teams (my team worked out of Hinche and the other out of Cap-Haitien) and began performing in neighborhoods, schools and community centers. The average audience size was around 300 kids and adults. Sometimes we performed for over 800.
